our vision
The vision of the Urban Perinatal Education Center grew out of the inability to have a safe space reflective of the Black, Indigenous and People Of Color community in the perinatal and maternal health realm in our communities.
phase 1: location (building a safe space)
Urban Perinatal Education Center has existed in an online/virtual sphere for the beginning formative portions of its work. As we have solidified our plans and pivoted towards direct service care, resources, and support. We found our home in Pawtucket's Historic Quality Hill. Thank you all our kin-mmunity supporters.
phase 1: educators and workshops
It's in our name! The Urban Perinatal Education Center is focused on evidence based, best cultural practice education for child birthing persons. Through empowering and informative education and workshops we can make a difference in perinatal equity.
phase 2: community midwifery Easy (Equity) Access Clinic
The Urban Perinatal Education Center, a Perinatal Safe Spot, is planning the development of RI's first JJWay™ Accredited Easy Access Clinic for clinical perinatal care and services for episodic care. Our goals include Midwifery model care and licensed perinatal mental health therapist for Black and BIPOC families.
phase 2: community milk bank (depot and dispensary)
The Urban Perinatal Education Center understands the value of human milk feeding and its optimal first food nutrition for newborns and infants. We are happy to offer our space for human milk donation and dispenary for families in collaboration with Milk Bank North East.
phase 4: expansion
We aren't sure what will be our next phase, but we are claiming it in advance! Join us in revolutionary accessibility and equity in perinatal care for RI.
