Our Ask is simple. We are seeking financial and technical support to maintain the sustainability and viability of a necessary community resource for families. The lack of intentional investment for Black and BIPOC maternal and perinatal care maintains the under utilization and establishment of safe spaces for equitable and representative care. Our RI Maternal Health disparaging data has been continuous and worsening exacerbated by the pandemic while this maternal crisis persists.
On February 22, 2022 the Urban Perinatal Education Center in Downtown Providence, closed on its building acquisition within Historic Pawtucket, RI. Formerly, a healing energetic chiropractor medical home it was an ideal space to build collective community-responsive healing and care for Black and BIPOC families. Part 1: Building Fund & Renovations mixed-use (2022)
Over the course of 1 year we watched as prices soared higher and higher from attainability. We secured a building at $435,000 for a medically zoned mixed use space with on-site parking. Renovations produced a number of setbacks from supply chain delays, low to no inventory, remediation, & unforeseen construction build.
Part 2: Furnishings & Decor (2022)
Interior design and planning for spaces that are comfortable, safe, secure, stable, and weight bearing are necessary. Height considerations, cushion pressure and adaptability for families are important factors and unfortunately higher costing. We would like to thank Cardi's Furniture for their donation to our waiting room space and lactation room.
We would like thank all of our community members and friends who made our space better by donating, especially the Bryant Alumni Classes 2000--2005, they truly showed appreciation for their alum Executive Director. If you want our space to feel like a collective space of love and care. Please consider a "love" gift to our space: https://linktr.ee/Urbanperinatalri
